Wacky Wednesday Tips: Scratched Wood

The problem with wood furniture is that it tends to get scratched easily, and those scratches really show. We've heard all sorts of tips on how to fix scratches, but this one is our favorite so far!


Method:
  • 1/2 Cup Vinegar
  • 1/2 Cup Olive Oil
Mix the ingredients in a bowl and use a rag dipped in the mixture to polish the wood. Keep going until you have polished the full surface. The scratches will still be there, but should be far less apparent.

This may require repetition on a regular basis to keep the scratches from returning.

Wacky Wednesday - Burners

The stove top tends to be the focus when cleaning your own stove, while the burners are left covered in grease. Cooking causes the oils and grease to cook onto the burner, making it seemingly impossible to remove. It doesn't need to be difficult though, just follow these steps!
  1. Take 1/4 cup of ammonia
  2. Seal one burner and the ammonia up in a large zip lock bag
  3. Let sit overnight (you may want to place this on a cookie sheet in case of leaking)
  4. Wipe down with a clean sponge
That's it. It's the ammonia fumes that dissolves all the grease and cooked on oils.  No scrubbing or soaking is necessary.

Wacky Wednesday - Hard Water Removal

We all suffer from hard water deposits around our sinks, but getting rid of them is far easier than you might expect. The secret? Vinegar.

Soak paper towels in vinegar and wrap them around any area with hard water deposits. Let sit for 20 minutes and the hard water should come off with a light scrub. If the hard water is particularly thick, you may want to let the vinegar sit for an hour (you may need to rewet the towels with vinegar periodically).

Wacky Wednesday - Pet Hair Removal

If you have a furry friend in your home, chances are good that you've had to deal with the annoyance of having animal hair on your furniture or clothes. Using duct tape or pet rollers to remove hair works, but it gets expensive when you have to replace it over and over. There is an easier solution though!
  1. Buy a new set of rubber gloves 
    1. you will want to use a different set than the pair you use to clean, to avoid getting unwanted grime or cleaning solution on your furniture
  2. Dampen the gloves
  3. Put them on and remove hair 
That's it. The damp rubber material is like a magnet to hair!
